“Alone we can do little, together, we can do so much.”
This quote resonates with me. Although I like to work with others on a task, I prefer finishing a task alone as I have the freedom to manipulate my own time and resources. However, working collaboratively with others has some benefits that I genuinely value.
In this blog, I will share with you the value of collaborative effort.
Learning through others
As we were working towards the completion of the table of specifications, we had to schedule online meetings to discuss activities and the kinds of assessments. I have learned to be patient when listening to other people’s points of view. Every individual has their unique way of thinking, and that should be valued as well. The most important thing to take away from the perspectives of other people, regardless of whether they are subjective or objective, is whether or not we respect the individuality and ideas of one another.
Respect Individuality
Disagreements occur when we think another person’s belief is false. How can we prove that their belief is false? What do we get from disagreements? Why does it occur? I have been with numerous people from different walks of life. I have observed a lot of disagreements and I have learned from them. I have realized that some disagreements happen when we try to prove what we think is right without considering other people’s perspectives. When we were working in a group, I made an effort to be mindful of everyone’s unique qualities. It helped me connect with them on a personal level.
Take the courage to lead
Despite my busy schedule at work, I set goals to finish the tasks on time. Being in a group means that we have to consider other group members’ schedules. Can they do it on time? What if, they don’t? I had the courage to lead. One thing I am occasionally skeptical of is What if they won’t listen to me? What if they are too slow in finishing a task? There are tons of what-ifs in my mind. However, I saw the need to lead, started to set some goals, and deliberately shared our expectations with everyone. We were able to complete all of the tasks we set for ourselves at the start of our collarative work. This gives me the confidence to take on any task that is assigned to me.
Having a positive rapport with your team is just as important as making great contributions to the work that you do together. Thus, the value of collaborative effort must be realized.
