The Present Simple Negative

Welcome back to our English lesson.

Today we are going to learn about the present simple negative.

We add the word “not” after the verb to make negative sentences using “be” in the present simple. For other verbs, we use the words “do not” or “does not.”

How do we form the present simple negative?

First is the subject, such as I, She, We, followed by the verb “be” and then the word “not.”

Now let’s move on to how to make negative contractions. 

For verbs other than “be,” the words “don’t “ or “doesn’t” is placed before the verb to make the negative. 

How to form the present simple negative with other verbs

For example, the pronouns I, You, We, and They must be followed by the word “don’t”

I don’t work at a hospital.

We don’t work at a hospital.

For singular pronouns, she, he it, they must be followed by the word “doesn’t”

She doesn’t work at a hospital.

He doesn’t work at a hospital.
