What is a noun?
A noun is a word used to name people, places, animals, objects, and ideas.
For example:
The word “girl” is a noun because it names a person.
The word “dog” is a noun because it names an animal.
The word “school” is a noun because it names a place.
There are many types of nouns. For today’s lesson, let’s focus on singular and plural nouns.
Singular nouns are words used to name a single person, place, animal, or object.
For Example
- There is a little girl in front of our house. (Single person)
- That is my brother. (Single person)
- I found a wounded dog in the park. (Single dog)
- I bought a pink bag last week. (Single object)
Another type of noun that we are going to focus on in today’s lesson is the plural noun.
4. Plural nouns: Plural nouns refer to several people, places, animals, or things.
The plural form of a noun is made by adding an ‘s’ or ‘es’ or ‘ies’ or ‘ves’ to
the existing root word. Nouns that end with an ‘s’ remain the same.
For example:
I want to buy more pencils.
She has three sisters.
There are many apples on the table.
I like foxes.
As mentioned earlier, nouns are made plural by adding an ‘s’ or ‘es’ or ‘ies’ or ‘ves’ to the existing root word.
