As a Learner myself
Learning new things gets me elated. I do not perceive studying for long hours as a burden. Instead, I am empowered. As lifelong learners, the more we learn, the more we become confident in dealing with personal or societal issues.
I always hold on to this quote. I view learning as a journey. There might be ups and downs as we must deal with unexpected circumstances. Through EDS 103, I now have a fresh perspective on learning. I used to believe that intelligence was the only factor that determined one’s level of success. Through other factors, such as self-efficacy and motivation, success is attainable. Juggling three things simultaneously, family, career, and education, is never an easy task. Easy A strong sense of self-efficacy is the fuel that drives me to pursue my goals. Moreover, I take full responsibility for my learning.
As an educator
As an IB educator, studying learning theories has equipped me profoundly. I can now discern which activity needs to be modified to achieve expected learning outcomes through the approaches we have learned. The success of students relies on teachers. Although time and effort are a priority when creating lesson plans and activities, the content and what skill set to develop should be considered. Adapting the instructional design to the needs of students is fundamental to the growth of learners. I am not just a mere source of knowledge as an educator but a constructor of knowledge and an active participant in the student’s learning process.
As a parent
Learning does not only transpire in school but also in the four corners of our homes. As a parent with a new perspective on learning, I can utilize the knowledge I have gained from this course in disciplining our children. As we believe that behavior develops at home and young age, and as an educator, I take it seriously to apply what I have learned from this course at home. I use positive and negative reinforcements at home for our children to develop a sense of responsibility, a skill that will shape them into global-minded citizens.
I am forever thankful for taking EDS 103. We had to accomplish weekly tasks that were never a piece of cake. It took us time and effort to get here (the finish line). Collaborating with classmates with varying perspectives sharpens my people skills. I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to everyone, my groupmates: Team Active and Team Language Comm, and our professor, Prof. Juachon, for making my learning journey successful and exciting.
I hope to work with all of you once again.
