My Views on Assessment

Assessment is an essential component of any educational system, which determines if the goals of instructions are being met.

Nowadays, students are expected to have a well-rounded education that includes traditional subjects such as reading, writing, mathematics, and sciences and the soft skills necessary to thrive in a world that is always shifting and changing. They must think critically, analyze information, and form sound opinions.

Various educational institutions have revised their instructional aims considering changes in knowledge and expertise that students need to possess Because of this, assessment and education are now more tightly coupled in the same way they once were. Teachers should have a voice in determining the assessment’s overarching aims and the specific standards it uses to measure student learning.

Assessment is most useful when it reflects a view of learning that is holistic, interconnected, and manifested in actual performance across time.

Learning is a complex process. It includes not only what students know but also what they can accomplish with that information; it includes not only facts and skills but also the attitudes and values as well as mental routines that impact students’ ability to learn and succeed in other contexts. The assessment process should represent these ideas by using a wide variety of techniques, including those that demand concrete results, and by applying these techniques repeatedly throughout time to show development.
