Japanese phrases and sentences 001

The process of learning a new language can be complicated. We often worry about what part of the target language we need to know first. Is it necessary for us to become fluent in that language’s alphabet? What about the many components of language?

There are many ways to learn Japanese. First, you need to master some words and phrases to communicate.

How to learn Japanese phrases

1. Familiarize yourself with the Japanese alphabet.
The best way to learn Japanese is to start with the basics, like the alphabet. If you want to be able to read Japanese, you will need to become familiar with three fundamental writing systems: Hiragana, Katakana, and Kanji.

2. Learn Hiragana
Reading the Hiragana script is an absolute requirement for anyone starting the Japanese writing system known as hiragana, which has 46 characters but may also represent 51 phonetic symbols. Its primary application is for writing native Japanese words. It is essential to comprehend how and why Japanese words sound the way they do to fully grasp the language. Learning Hiragana is a challenging cause. The majority of the characters only have one possible pronunciation. After you’ve mastered Hiragana, you’ll undoubtedly have a solid foundation; you’ll speak Japanese with a more native-like accent.

3. Learn Katakana
In contrast to Hiragana, Katakana is used for writing non-Japanese words or loanwords. A loanword is a word that has been adopted from another language. These can be scientific or technical phrases. Because Katakana won’t be used as frequently as Hiragana, particularly at the beginning of your journey to learn the Japanese language, it may be more difficult for you to learn than Hiragana. The frequency with which Katakana appears increases proportionally to your level.

4. Learn basic Kanji
Many students of Japanese have the misconception that mastering Kanji is the most challenging aspect of the process. On the other hand, it is among the essential components of learning Japanese. If you know the fundamental Kanji, you can comprehend, speak, and write some basic Japanese. The Chinese writing system known as kanji consists of thousands of symbols that can stand in for whole words, concepts, or phrases.

Kanji is notoriously difficult to learn because the Japanese words they represent only sometimes lend themselves to a straightforward translation into English. Because of this, a single Kanji term can have multiple interpretations that are appropriate in English. We never claimed that learning Japanese would be simple, but we did say that learning Kanji would significantly increase the number of ways you could express yourself.

Here are some phrases and sentences you can use in your daily life in Japan.
