10 things to do in Naha City for couples or solo travelers

In this blog, I share my top 10 things to do around Naha City for couples or solo travelers.

That’s all for today’s video. If you are traveling with kids and looking for places to visit in Okinawa, please check out this video. See you at my next one. Bye!

1.       Palette Mall is a historic department store in Naha. It has been in the exact location for decades. You could spend a day here. If you are into shopping for high-end products, then Palette Mall is the best place to shop. A variety of Japanese products are available as well.

2.       Kokusai Dori

It’s interesting to walk along the street with different types of shops. You can spend an entire day here. There are many restaurants to choose from. You can buy souvenirs here without going in and out of your car. Some stores accept foreign currency, but I suggest you bring Japanese yen.

3.       Blue Seal

They say that Blue Seal was born in America but raised in Okinawa. Blues seal ice cream is the most popular ice cream brand in Okinawa. If you want to satisfy your sweet tooth, Blue seal ice cream is for you!

4.       Heiwadori is a covered shopping arcade featuring many shops, from Japanese kimonos to fruits and vegetables to shoes. There is also Makishi public market where you can shop for seafood and even have your food cooked for you…You can also get some souvenirs at Heiwadori. There’s so much to see here, and it’s definitely worth a visit…You can experience local food…It’s better to go here in the morning because Heiwadori gets so crowded in the afternoon.

5.       Tsuboya Pottery District is the center of Okinawan pottery. This area is full of small shops selling Shiisa dogs, bowls, plates, vases, and glasses. I strongly suggest visiting the museum first before you enjoy strolling the avenue. Small Shiisa dogs are good souvenirs for your friends and co-workers.

6.       Naha Bus Terminal

If you’re looking for children’s English books, they are available on the 3rd floor at the American Corner. If you are looking for English books related to business, they are available on the 4th floor. Anyway, the best and cheapest way to get around Naha is by using public transport.

7.       Fukushuen Garden is located in Kume, Naha City. This area was once the main Chinese cultural and trade area. The garden was opened in 1992 to commemorate the 10 years of friendship between Naha and Fuzhou City in China. The garden symbolizes the historical trade and cultural links between Okinawans and the Chinese mainland.

8.       Eat Zenzai

9.       Have lunch at Ashibiuna

Ashibiuna is just a 4 minute’s walk from the Tounokura bus stop. And just a

5-minute walk from Shuri Castle.

10.   Shuri Castle is the giant castle in Okinawa, which was once home to Ryukyu kings. It is a must see place if you want to feel the spirits and history of the Ryukyu kingdom, which ruled the Ryukyu islands for about 450 years.

The castle is one of the nine sites on Okinawa that4-minute5-minute UNESCO registered as “Gusuku Sites and Related Properties of the Kingdom of Ryukyu.”

You can have your photo taken in local costumes…
